Kate Bautista is a Mexican and American multidisciplinary designer/artist working within the constructs of fashion, garment making and textiles. She was born in Texas to an American mother and a Mexican diaspora father however grew up in Oaxaca de Juarez from the age of six, assimilating into the Oaxacan and Mexican culture. Having a multicultural background has had a crucial influence on her worldview, values and ideals. After living in Mexico City for two years and gaining experience in the Mexican fashion industry, Bautista moved to London, UK to study a Bachelor of the Arts in Bespoke Tailoring at London College of Fashion. In London she learnt artisanal and craft construction of garments as well as first hand experience of researching archives and participating actively in a Latinx art collective at UAL. After graduating from higher education in 2021, Kate engaged in work experience varying from crafting handmade fashion designers to making bespoke garments for a Savile Row house. Currently Kate Bautista is exploring her practice beyond fashion garments and expanding into objects and sculpture.
